While most of New York City prioritizes in person learning, one school district in the suburbs north of NYC was set to implement fully virtual instructions Christmas week as the region experiences a surge in COVID-19 cases.
- The Mount Vernon City School District began remote schooling on Wednesday, Dec. 22, until at least Jan. 18, 2022.
- Depending on the trajectory of COVID-19 positivity rates, school building closures may be further extended.
NYC Safety Protocols
- NYC public schools are remaining open.
- Before teachers and students return to class, everyone is expected to be tested.
- Vaccinations are mandated for adults.
- Universal mask mandate is in order.
- Health screening required upon school entry.
- Isolation protocol for those testing positive.
- Weekly testing going forward.
